The start of the defence case in the Roodefontein corruption trial was delayed on Monday when the attorney for David Malatsi asked for another day to prepare his case.
Malatsi, former Western Cape environment and planning MEC, will go into the witness box on Tuesday instead.
His attorney, Frank Raymond, told the Belville Regional Court there had been a "communication gap" and that Malatsi had thought the trial resumed on July 24.
Malatsi and his co-accused former Western Cape premier Peter Marais face corruption charges involving a total of R400 000.
The case relates to payments into the bank account of the New National Party in 2002 which the State claims were bribes to smooth the approval process for the Roodefontein golf estate at Plettenberg Bay.
At the close of the State case in December, magistrate Andre Legrange discharged Malatsi on one count of corruption, but ruled he and Marais still had to answer to the other corruption counts.
